hope
hall is a freelance documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and
performer in new york city. she is the recipient of honorable mentions
at the sundance, louisville, humboldt, and black maria film festivals
in the short documentary category and a yearlong independent study fellowship
at the whitney
museum.
currently her cinematography work
can be seen in the independent feature documentary 'beyond
conviction,' a feature documentary on mediation between victim and
perpetrator in pennsylvania prisons. her work is also in various current
tv productions: bravo's 'tabloid
wars;' vh-1's
'live @ vh-1' and 'little
beauties;' and mtv's 'overdrive'
and 'first year,' a feature documentary following entrepreneur kenny lao's
opening of 'rickshaw
dumpling bar.'
she
has a master's degree in communication from stanford
university in documentary film and video and a bachelor's from university
of california, berkeley in history and french. currently she is making
a film about new york, with frequent collaborators purcell carson and
sadia shepard, for the upcoming 10th
venice architecture biennale in venice, italy. other current projects
include cinematography
for vh-1 live and mtv
overdrive, and for two feature documentaries, green
bananas, and the toy
challenge. she is also photographing development in new york for e-xplo's
upcoming exhibition in berlin (Dear
Hope, Was Anything Lost Or Gained?).
other recent projects include directing
multi-channel installation videos for the guggenheim museum's 'art
of the motorcycle' exhibition in las vegas, shooting video for mtv's
'true life' series, and for project minga in isabel maria, ecuador
and collaborating with projection designer wendall k. harrington on the
projection design for the premiere of eve ensler's "the good body."
she
is currently in the research phase of several long-term projects on politics
and on music. she is also collaborating with filmmaker sadia shepard on
a double exposure correspondence film between bombay and new york, and
with filmmaker
purcell carson on a cine-poem based on mark strand's 'keeping
things whole.'
